Edit: It was decided to officially open the garden quietly and respectfully. The opening wasn’t publicised and invites were extended to those directly involved with the project - which included funders, contractors, volunteers, and of course John’s family. The garden is not large and therefore has limited capacity, we trust you understand. The garden, even in the gloom of yesterday’s rain was beautiful, and in time it will flourish and become the haven and lasting legacy the community asked for.

Some of the hardy folk of Hayle came out for the official opening of the John Pollard Garden earlier today. A little bit of rain did not dampen the celebrations for this lovely new asset. The Mayor, Councillor Jeremy Martin, and Mrs Jean Pollard spoke about John and his love of and dedication to Hayle and Jean proudly cut the ribbon!

Just as everyone was leaving , the rain eased, the sun shone through the clouds and a rainbow appeared. A beautiful still moment, after a special gathering.

We’ll post photos of the event and one of Councillor Trevor Smitheram’s videos over the next few days. For now we thank everyone who attended today and those who helped bring this neglected area to life. We also thank the geese community for their timely fly by.
