The Four Winds in Falmouth could be transformed into an elderly care facility. It comes after site owners One Red Ltd had its plans for student housing refused by planners. A pre-application has been lodged with Cornwall Council seeking permission to remove all existing buildings and redevelop it to create a specialist elderly care unit of up to 87 beds with associated social spaces. The trial of a pensioner who is accused of murdering his 88-year-old wife has been delayed to allow time for a psychiatric assessment. Douglas Addison is currently being held at Exeter Prison, but is due to be moved to a specialised mental health unit in Yorkshire for an assessment of his level of dementia. Some 36,000 dogs in Cornwall could have come from a puppy farm, a new study has shown. According to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals working with comparison website GoCompare.com, one in four dogs may come from a puppy farm.
