Hayle Heritage Centre grand opening!
Harvey’s Foundry Trust is pleased to announce that Hayle will finally have a heritage and cultural centre based at John Harvey House on Foundry Square. We have been working with Falmouth design company 20/20 and local historians to create a centre that gives residents and visitors a chance to learn about Hayle’s fascinating history.
The centre will be open to the public from Friday the 30th of August. From 10.00am onwards the renowned local storyteller Mark Haradon will be here telling specially written stories about Hayle for us - come along to listen to tales of deadly rivalry and adventure.
On Saturday the 31st at 11.00am you will be able to take a guided tour around Harvey’s Foundry with local historian Kingsley Rickard from the Trevithick Society. And in the afternoon from 1.00pm we are holding a kids craft afternoon - a chance for children to learn about their local history whilst making a print they can take home.
The centre is free admission and all the activities are free. Places are limited so please contact the Trust to book your space.
The centre has a core exhibition that provides an overview of the history of Hayle and we will have a rolling programme of temporary exhibitions, events, workshops and lectures throughout the year. We will also be running family workshops over the school holidays, so please keep an eye on our website and the local press for information.
We are also looking for volunteers to get involved with the running the centre, so if you have a passion for history and your town please get in contact.
The centre will be open Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 11-4 and Saturday 11-4 throughout September with reduced opening hours during the winter months.
For information on how to get involved or book a place on an activity please contact Laura Christon on 01736 757683 or via email on laura@harveysfoundrytrust.org.uk, you can also check out our website at www.hayleheritagecentre.org.uk
