Head teachers across Cornwall are urging parents to demand answers from Parliamentary hopefuls about multi-million pound cuts to education funding which they said could mean classes of up to 100 pupils.
In a letter seen by Cornwall Live, head teachers said they were being careful not to stray into politics but the scale of the cuts has plunged them into a "dreadful state" and they were facing "significant current financial difficulties".

The driver who was "showing off" while more than two times the legal drink driving limit when he ploughed into a teenager has been jailed.
Ashley Godber was given a 28-month prison sentence for causing injuries which a court heard may be with 18-year-old Ruby-Tuesday Hobbs for the rest of her life.
Plymouth Crown Court heard that Godber, 27, was driving at nearly twice the speed limit and driving dangerously when he hit the teenager, who bravely attended the sentencing hearing...

Footage has been captured of the moments shortly after a motorist ran over a bench in a bizarre incident in the centre of Newquay.
The motorist crashed into the metal bench while driving up Newquay's busy East Street in the centre of the town on Thursday morning.

A 33-year-old man from Hayle has appeared in court charged with robbery and taking a motor vehicle without owner's consent.
Alan Rouffignac has been remanded in police custody after appearing before magistrates in Truro. Rouffignac entered no pleas and will next appear at Truro Crown Court next month.

Amazing drone video shows volunteers abseiling 300ft to collect...
A group of volunteers went to extreme lengths to help keep Cornwall beautiful by abseiling down the side of a cliff to help retrieve rubbish including two mattresses, clothes and bags of gravel discarded by fly-tippers.
Local residents in the seaside village of Porthtowan were left upset after fly-tippers dumped rubbish in the popular beauty spot. The huge mound landed on a ledge about 300ft down the cliff, making it almost impossible to reach.

Cornwall to fall silent at 11am today in memory of the victims of...
A minute's silence will be observed across Cornwall at 11am to mark the horrific terror attack in Manchester.
Staff at all Cornwall Council buildings will be among those to fall silent this morning as part of a national commemoration to the victims of the atrocity.
The Government announced on May 24 that there would be a silence at 11am on May 25 in remembrance of those who died in Monday night's attack, and for others affected by the explosion in Manchester Arena.

Police catch 350 speeding drivers in Newquay in two days
More than 350 drivers have been caught speeding in Newquay in just two days.
Police mounted a traffic operation in the town last week in response to community concerns about speeding motorists and antisocial driving.
Officers and staff from the Safety Camera Partnership joined road casualty reduction officers, neighbourhood police and speed watch volunteers during the two-day operation on May 16 and 17.

Snake found on the loose in Launceston
A corn snake has been discovered in a residential area of Launceston, less than a month after another snake was reported to have been found.
Castle Veterinary Group Ltd has appealed for the owners of the snake to get in touch.

Staff at a Bodmin care home were left shocked after vandals entered the property and broke two stone lions that have been on the site for years.The damage was noticed in the early hours of Sunday (May 21) when employees arrived at St Petroc's Care Home for their early shift. Not many people would plunge their iPhone into water - but one photographer decided this opportunity was too good to miss.
Conrad Lees, a snapper based in Ilfracombe, took the risk in order to capture a close-up video of a shark in a rockpool.

Liskeard man Adrian Richard Jewell sent to prison after series of...
A Liskeard man has been sent to prison for a series of sexual offences over a nine-year period.
The 19-year sentence of Adrian Richard Jewell, of Joan Moffat Close, at Exeter Crown Court, for five rapes, two sexual assaults and voyeurism, has been welcomed by Devon and Cornwall Police detectives.
"I hope this sentence allows the three victims to finally move forward with their lives," said detective constable Nick Rowell.

Devon and Cornwall police were scrambled to west Cornwall following reports of a man with a knife - they later made an arrest.
Emergency services were alerted just before lunch time, with many residents startled by the commotion.
"Police were called around 11.45am to North Street, Marazion, following reports of a man with a knife," said a force spokesman.
"Officers attended and a man was detained at the scene. A man has been arrested on suspicion of affray."

A 16-year-old from St Austell has been heavily criticised after posting insensitive 'jokes' on Facebook in the wake of the terror attack which killed 22 people in Manchester.
Suicide bomber Salman Abedi also left 119 people injured at the end of a concert by US pop star Ariana Grande when he let off an improvised explosive device in the lobby of the city arena.
